First Betty Stallings' Training

What a great turnout for our first training! Thanks to everyone who participated on Wednesday, February 27, 2008. There was great energy in the room as 29 colleagues came together to learn from Betty's training module and to share their experiences. The first module chosen by a vote of the DAVA members was Volunteer Recruitment - a topic close to all our hearts.

Chris Linnell and Steve Wolfe, below, were the Master Trainers presenting this module.

What's a meeting without coffee and donuts? Linda Dean enjoys the treats.

Meeting Betty Stallings

WOW! That sums up my feelings about meeting Betty Stallings, one of the current gurus of volunteer management. I and three of my DAVA colleagues had the opportunity to meet her on December 12, 2007. She presented a training to us and representatives from the Volunteer Centers of Illinois. The goal was to train us to be Master Trainers who could then train others. Thanks to Giving DuPage we were able to purchase a limited licence for her Training Busy Staff to Succeed With Volunteers - the 55-Minute Training Series. When I had read her biography on her web page http://www.bettystallings.com I was struck by how much experience she had. Then when I met her I was struck by how down-to-earth and sensible she was! I came away from the training with the feeling that what she said was not only doable but necessary. Today DAVA is presenting the first training series. I am excited that we are able to pass along Betty's training and share her years of experience and resources. Watch for more resources to come!
